Foster Care Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY:
The Foster Care Coordinator is a part-time position (less than 25 hours) and is responsible for facilitating placement of animals in appropriate foster homes, and then providing general health, wellness, and organization for animals once placed into their foster homes. Recruiting new fosters and providing appropriate training is one of the sole duties of the position to ensure the Foster Program is a rewarding experience for all foster volunteers and provides the support needed. This position does require some on-call and after-hours duties.
SUPERVISOR: Shelter Manager
BASIC REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Recruitment of new fosters, screening applications, supervising, training and motivating foster families.
Develop and update foster care training and program as needed.
Schedule and host regular foster volunteer training sessions and accommodate special individual trainings as needed.
Communicate with foster caregivers in a timely, efficient, and thorough manner.
Communicate with management, medical, adoption and behavior teams as needed.
Manage or maintain foster family contact information, training records, schedules, and participation.
Produce timely foster program reports and data.
Assure that animals in foster placement receive the proper veterinary care as needed which includes communicating with the medical team as medical issues arise, or if an animal in foster needed vaccinations, flea/tick medications, and more.
Monitoring and scheduling all vet care needs such as needed vaccinations, flea/tick control, dewormer, antibiotics and more.
Maintain inventory of foster supplies and materials as well as maintaining foster kits to provide to fosters when animals leave for foster.
Providing foster report cards to animals in foster to document behavior, and any other information that may be useful for future adoption.
Ability to read, understand, edit and create SOP’s related to the Foster Program.
Be conversant in shelter policies pertaining to adoptions, surrenders, behavior evaluations, treatment policies, and animal care.
Perform other related duties and assignments as required and determined by management based on the needs of the organization.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSBILITIES:
As needed, shelter cleaning, or other duties as given by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Commitment to the welfare of companion animals and a strong commitment to the mission of Gloucester Mathews Humane Society.
Ability to lift 40 lbs. with assistance.
Proven ability to work with the public under various circumstances and in a setting that places a high value on customer service is considered mandatory.
Professional oral communication and customer service skills.
A valid state drivers license with a clean driving record preferred.
Strong animal welfare background experience including veterinary triage required.
Ability and skill to successfully work with various types of animals in a safe, responsible manner.
Ability to set priorities, develop routines and manage large workloads, multiple duties and tasks.
Ability to work independently as well as with others in a wide variety of circumstances and with a diverse group of individuals.
Strong communications skills and an ability to communicate in a polite and professional manner even in stressful situations.
Excellent customer service, listening, and decision-making skills.
Petpoint Software knowledge preferred.
