Happily Every Afters

Picture
Dawson
Dawson was adopted in March 2013. Her name was Spunky when she was as at the shelter. She fills my days with laughter and brings joy to all that meet her. Dawson has two fur siblings, Bobby and Coco, who are cats. She loves going on walks and car rides. Dawson is a great swimmer and loves being out on the boat. Adopting her was one of the best decisions I have ever made

Bingo
My name is Bingo, and I am a happy dog! Last year, I was at the GMHS, and I went on many adventures with the nice people there. I got to march in parades and I went to lots of adoption events. Everyone loved me, but I did not have a forever home.

The Santa celebration was on a cold, rainy day at Brent and Becky's Bulbs. I was outside wagging welcome to everyone who came even though it was not the prettiest day. I was in the wonderful entry garden with one of the very nice ladies, and my soon-to-be mom came to pet me. She said that she probably could not adopt anyone because she has lots of pets already. I had heard that before from other people. But, she couldn't stay away. I kept wagging, and she kept petting. She went to her car, and I was sure I was not going to see her again. Then, surprise! She came back! She said that she could adopt me. I started wagging really hard. I got a hot dog to celebrate, and I got my picture in the paper with my new mom AND Santa.

Now, I've been at my new house for almost a year.  I know how to respect kitties thanks to the big stripey one who keeps the boundaries drawn. I even have my own best friend kitten who goes everywhere with me. I have horses to play with, and they let me sniff around their big yard to make sure nothing is coming in. I know where my yard is, and I love my front porch. I have two pillows that are just for me, and I get to go for walks wearing cool bandanas that people give me. I have a lot of them, and I wear my special bacon one from my Auntie Alice when I go out to get treats from the pet store.

Thank you, GMHS, for giving me a second chance. I am a happy dog!

A Happy Ever After Tail for 8 year old Shelter Alum, Reese!

Dear GMHS,
I just wanted to write and tell you how your old dog Reese, our new dog, was getting along! I guess Reese has been with us for about 2 months now and he is doing great! Allegedly Reese chased chickens and animals, and we have seen none of this behavior. We have chickens and he has never even looked at them sideways, much less chased them! Reese is probably the most loving dog we have ever owned and is a perfect gentleman with our young two boys and their friends. He has never had any accidents or chewed anything, and is really a lovely boy. He walks beautifully on a leash and does not pull or drag you around. He's a great dog! One thing we are having to work with is reassuring him that nothing is going to hurt him, he is very timid of many things and scared, whatever his previous life was like was perhaps not so good as he has it now.
I love to take Reese in the car on adventures and so far he has been to Nags Head and loves to walk on the beach, he likes to go down to the river and just anywhere he can have a nice walk. I hope that other folks will consider adopting an older dog because they are bundles of love, they are calm and they are grateful for the gift of your time. Reese has found a happy home, and I hope other old fellas and girls will have the same good fortune. Thanks for all you do!'

Visit the Shelter to meet some other great Seniors. You might find the pet you didn't know you were looking for!
